Is It Open on Thanksgiving 2026? Walmart, Target, Costco, Home Depot and Lowe’s
Thanksgiving is Thursday, Nov. 26. Five big chains have already said their stores will be closed; here is what each one confirmed, and what is known about Black Friday.

The short answer
Walmart, Costco, Home Depot and Lowe’s have confirmed their stores will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 26, 2026, and Target keeps its stores closed on Thanksgiving under a policy it made permanent in 2021. So far, Home Depot is the only one of them to post a Black Friday opening time: 6 a.m. on Nov. 27. Kohl’s closed last year but has not announced 2026 hours.

Shopping on Thanksgiving Day without a store
Closed doors do not mean no deals. Costco lists online savings valid on Thanksgiving Day itself. Lowe’s says it will run online-only deals that day, and its MyLowe’s Rewards and MyLowe’s Pro Rewards members get early online access to Black Friday Doorbusters on Thanksgiving, one day before everyone else. Last year, Kohl’s also put its doorbusters online on Thanksgiving while its stores were closed.
The Black Friday dates that are already set
- Lowe’s: Black Friday deals began Oct. 29, its 12 Days of Deals start Nov. 16, and Doorbusters open to all customers on Nov. 27.
- Home Depot: stores open at 6 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 27.
- Costco: Black Friday savings run Nov. 27 through Nov. 30.
After Thanksgiving
Three of these chains have already said they will close on Christmas Day, Friday, Dec. 25: Walmart, Home Depot and Lowe’s. Home Depot also plans to close at 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve.
