Banks: closed, and your transfer waits a day
Veterans Day is a Federal Reserve holiday. Chase, for one, says it doesn’t process transactions on days the Federal Reserve Banks are closed, so a transfer or bill payment set for Nov. 11 generally moves to Thursday, Nov. 12.
Chase also lists Nov. 11 among the days its U.S. offices are generally closed, and Wells Fargo lists Veterans Day among its branch holidays.
New York’s bank regulator also lists Veterans’ Day as a 2026 holiday on which banks may close. Whether your local bank or credit union opens is its own call, so check its holiday page.
Mail and packages
No regular mail on Wednesday, and post offices are closed.
UPS picks up and delivers on Nov. 11, and The UPS Store locations are open. One catch: UPS says UPS Ground Saver and UPS Mail Innovations deliveries take an extra business day because of the postal holiday.
FedEx lists Nov. 11 as modified service. Its schedule warns that on-call and drop box pickups may run early in some areas, and some drop boxes may be closed. FedEx Office stores are open.
Social Security moves up a day
Social Security pays most people on a Wednesday that depends on their birthday. In November 2026, the second Wednesday is Veterans Day.
So if you were born on the 1st to the 10th, the SSA’s 2026 schedule pays you on Tuesday, Nov. 10. Birthdays on the 11th to 20th are paid Nov. 18, and the 21st to 31st on Nov. 25.
If you’ve received benefits since before May 1997, your date is Nov. 3, which isn’t affected.
Schools, trash pickup and the DMV
Those are local and state decisions. Federal holiday or not, check your school district, your city’s collection schedule and your state’s motor vehicle office.
